Women's Soccer Tops SUNY Oneonta, 3-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team remained undefeated in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a 3-0 home win over SUNY Oneonta on Friday at the Field House Complex.

With the victory, Plattsburgh State improved its overall record to 6-1-2 and its SUNYAC record to 3-0-0. The Cardinals next host SUNY New Paltz for a SUNYAC match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. Oneonta (0-7-1, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) travels to SUNY Potsdam for a SUNYAC match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Plattsburgh State scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Senior midfielder Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 11th minute of the match. Seidman collected a loose ball outside the top of the 18-yard box and unleashed a hard shot that beat the goalkeeper and found the lower-left portion of the goal. The goal was the fourth of the season for Seidman.

Senior forward Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) made the score 2-0 when she scored her second goal of the season in the 40th minute. Sophomore defender Nora Fitzgerald (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) played a pass ahead from the midfield. Villemaire ran onto the pass, dribbled to just outside the right corner of the six-yard box, and finished with a well-placed shot into the lower-left corner of the goal.

In the second half, senior forward Emily Frodyma (Watervliet, N.Y./Catholic Central) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 85th minute to make the final score 3-0. Sophomore defender Katie Stevenson (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) played the ball ahead from the left side of the Cardinals defensive third. Sophomore midfielder Avery Durgan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) collected the ball just across midfield. Durgan dribbled ahead and played a pass forward. Frodyma ran onto the ball in the top-left portion of the 18-yard box and quickly took a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal.

Junior goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) improved her record to 6-1-2 on the season. Ennis, who played the first 80:50 of the match, combined with first-year goalkeeper Payton Couture (Redford, N.Y./Saranac) for the shutout.

Claire Lepper (0-7-1) made four saves and allowed two goals for the Red Dragons in 63:50. Lepper was relieved by Sidney Restivo, who made one save and surrendered one goal.

Plattsburgh State outshot Oneonta 21-4 (8-1 shots on goal).
