Women's Soccer Shuts Out Fredonia, 2-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team shut out Fredonia, 2-0, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.

Plattsburgh State (8-2-2, 5-1-0 SUNYAC), which has won six of its last seven matches and sits atop the SUNYAC standings, next hosts SUNY Brockport for a SUNYAC match at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15. Fredonia (8-4-1, 3-2-0 SUNYAC) travels to Penn State Behrend for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Plattsburgh State had the majority of the offensive chances in the first half — outshooting Fredonia, 10-1. However, the match remained scoreless after 45:00 of play.

Scoring for the fourth consecutive match, senior forward Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) tallied her fifth goal of the season to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute. Villemaire took a pass from senior midfielder Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and dribbled to the top of the 18-yard box, where she finished with a shot that beat a diving goalkeeper and found the lower-right corner of the goal.

Under six minutes later, senior forward Emily Frodyma (Watervliet, N.Y./Catholic Central) made the score 2-0 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Senior forward Taylor Tous (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) assisted on Frodyma's goal that was scored in the 68th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) made six saves to earn her third shutout of the season as the Cardinals held on for the victory. Ennis (8-2-2) made six saves for Plattsburgh State. Sabrina Suriani (8-4-1) made seven saves for Fredonia.

Plattsburgh State outshot Fredonia, 17-7 (9-6 shots on goal).
