PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team defeated St. Michael's College, 2-0, in a home exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
With the win, Plattsburgh State swept the home-and-home exhibition series with the Purple Knights after winning 8-0 on Friday night. Plattsburgh State begins regular-season play with a home game against SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Purple Knights play at Long Island University on Friday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m.
The game remained scoreless until the final minute of the first period when sophomore forward Jordan Kowalski (Westfield, Mass./Boston Jr. Eagles) scored at the 19:12 mark. Junior forward Ivy Boric (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) and first-year defenseman Mattie Norton (Glen Carbon, Ill./St. Louis Lady Blues) tallied the assists.
The score remained 1-0 until 9:51 of the second period when senior forward Sara Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich./Northern Cyclones) scored to make the score 2-0. Graduate student forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) and Norton recorded the assists.
Junior goaltenders Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) and Chloe Beaubien (Colorado Springs, Colo./Ontario Hockey Academy) split time in goal. Nease made six saves as she played the first 29:37 of the game. Beaubien made seven saves in 30:23 played.
Leah White made 45 saves in goal for the Purple Knights.
Plattsburgh State outshot Saint Michael's, 47-13.
