Men's Soccer Tops SUNY Canton, 2-0, in Non-Conference Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton, 2-0, in a non-conference match on Tuesday at the Field House Complex.

Plattsburgh State (7-7-1) next hosts SUNY Potsdam for its regular-season finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. The Cardinals will be honoring their senior class with a Senior Day ceremony. Canton travels to SUNY Delhi for a non-conference match at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Plattsburgh State, which controlled play throughout most of the match and outshot Canton 29-1 (17-1 shots on goal), scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 19th minute. Senior midfielder Yusuke Tanda (Yokohama, Japan/Yokohama Minami) played a pass ahead to senior midfielder Cameron Richards (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck), who played a pass forward to sophomore midfielder Dylan Shalvey (Cavan, Ireland/Tappan Zee). Shalvey dribbled into the 18-yard box and scored his fourth goal of the season with a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal to make the score 1-0.

Plattsburgh State's lead remained 1-0 until the 83rd minute when first-year midfielder John Hayes (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) scored his third goal of the season. Hayes dribbled forward from midfield — evading defenders along the way. After entering the 18-yard box, Hayes scored with a shot into the lower-left corner of the goal.

First-year goaltender Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), who is the reigning PrestoSports Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week, earned his second career shutout. Healy has a 7-7-1 record on the season.

Owen Kwong (3-6-1) played the first half for Canton and made seven saves with one goal allowed. Jason Meneses, who played the second half for the Kangaroos, allowed one goal and made eight saves.
