Men's Soccer Defeats SUNY Potsdam, 2-0, to Conclude Season on Five-Game Winning Streak

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team concluded its season with a 2-0 home win over SUNY Potsdam in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match on Saturday at the Field House Complex.

Plattsburgh State (8-7-1, 4-4-1 SUNYAC) ended its season on a five-game winning streak but just missed out on making the SUNYAC Tournament. The Cardinals honored their graduating seniors with a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match. Potsdam (2-12-2, 0-9-0 SUNYAC) will conclude its season with a non-conference home match against SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m.

Plattsburgh State, which held an 11-5 edge in shots in the first half, took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute when junior forward Jai Coker (Birkdale, Australia/Redlands College) scored his second goal of the season. First-Year midfielder John Hayes (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) played a cross into the box. Sophomore midfielder Jack Healy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) headed a shot that hit off the crossbar and bounced back to Coker who scored with a header of his own.

Plattsburgh State continued to control the match into the second half — outshooting Potsdam 9-2 in the final 45:00 of play and 20-7 in the match.

The Cardinals' offensive pressure paid off when junior forward Alex Graci (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored his second goal of the season in the 64th minute to make the score 2-0. Sophomore midfielder Dylan Shalvey (Cavan, Ireland/Tappan Zee) played a pass ahead to Graci from the midfield. Graci dribbled into the top of the 18-yard box where he took a shot that beat the goalkeeper.

The Cardinals would hold on for the 2-0 shut-out victory.

First-year goalkeeper Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), who finished the season with an 8-7-1 record, recorded his third shutout of the season with six saves on the day. Dan Schaeber (0-2-0) made seven saves in goal for Potsdam.
