Men's Soccer Defeats SUNY Geneseo, 2-1, for Third Consecutive Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team earned its third consecutive victory with a 2-1 come-from-behind win at SUNY Geneseo in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match on Saturday at College Stadium.  

With the victory Plattsburgh State (6-7-1 (3-4-1 SUNYAC) moved into sixth place in the SUNYAC standings. The Cardinals next host SUNY Canton for a non-conference match at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Geneseo hosts Buffalo State for a SUNYAC match at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22.

Geneseo took a 1-0 lead when Stefen Nikolic scored his third goal of the season in the 19th minute. Ryan Hilke assisted on the play.

Following halftime, Plattsburgh state struck quickly to tie the match at 1-1. In the 47th minute, senior defender Andrew Braverman (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) — at the top right of the Cardinals' attacking third — played a cross into the 18-yard box. First-year midfielder John Hayes (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) headed in the cross for his second goal of the season. 

The score remained tied until the 75th minute when senior midfielder Trey Ekert (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) scored his second goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Dylan Shalvey (Cavan, Ireland/Tappan Zee) played a corner kick from the right corner. Shalvey's corner kick found Ekert in the left side of the 18-yard box. Ekert quickly took a shot that found the lower-left corner of the goal to make the score 2-1.

Plattsburgh State held off the Knights to secure the 2-1 come-from-behind victory.    

First-year goaltender Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), who improved his record to 6-7-1, made four saves for Plattsburgh State. 

Will Price (6-6-1) made one save for Geneseo.
