Women’s Soccer Shuts Out RPI 1-0 for Third Consecutive Win

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer used a strong defensive performance to shut out the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 1-0 on Saturday evening at the Field House Complex.

With the win, Plattsburgh State (3-0-0) has won its first three matches to start the 2019 season.

Plattsburgh State scored the only goal of the match in the 21st minute of play. Senior defender Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), positioned on the attacking side of midfield by the right sideline, played the ball ahead to the right side of the 18-yard box. Sophomore forward Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) ran the ball down before it could go out of play and crossed it towards the near post, where senior forward Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) finished with a header into the back of the net.

The Cardinals' defensive unit made the goal stand as they limited the Engineers to nine shots overall and no shots on net in the match.

In the 51st minute, the Engineers had briefly appeared to score, but the the goal was disallowed due to an offside call. The Cardinals would hold on for the 1-0 victory, limiting the Engineers to two shots in the second half.
Plattsburgh State outshot RPI 16-9, including 8-0 in shots on goal, in the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (3-0-0) earned the win for Plattsburgh State. Joey Lyons (1-1-1) made seven saves for RPI.

The Cardinals are next in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they welcome Middlebury College to the Field House Complex for a non-conference match.
