Women’s Soccer to Host Adrenal Cancer Awareness Match on Saturday

9/5/2019 7:00:00 PM

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer is hosting its Adrenal Cancer Awareness Match when the Cardinals face the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the Field House Complex on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m.

Plattsburgh State senior women's soccer student-athlete Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) has been personally affected by adrenal cancer. "My beloved Aunt Wendy passed from adrenal cancer last year," Bonner said. "She was beautiful, kind, giving, and loved making others happy. Her fight was tough, but she always had hope. She survived 11 years longer than anyone thought was possible. We want to honor her and find a cure."

Donations can be made in honor of Bonner's aunt by clicking here, or adrenal cancer Plattsburgh T-shirts can be purchased for $15 per shirt by clicking here. T-shirts can also be purchased at Saturday's match. All funds raised through donations and T-shirt sales will go to Adrenal Cancer Research at the ACC C.U.R.E. Foundation at the University of Michigan., a nonprofit organization for Adrenal Cancer Research.

"Adrenal cancer is a 'one-in-a-million' rare, aggressive, and often deadly cancer – only affecting around one to two people per million each year," Bonner said. "It is so rare, that many doctors never even see it in their lifetime. ACC C.U.R.E. needs as much support and research funding as possible to ensure that doctors and scientists can continue to improve treatments for patients. No one should have to go through what she (Aunt Wendy) did and we will never stop the fight."
