BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18) decision to The College at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday evening at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles held the upper hand in service aces (11-4) and digs (55-35), while the Cardinals finished with a 6-5 edge in blocks. Brockport hit .263 as a team for the match, which included a .444 hitting percentage in the first set.

Plattsburgh State drops to 5-10 overall (0-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 1 p.m. Brockport rises to 5-9 overall (1-1 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Brockport hopped out to an 11-3 lead in the first set, but Plattsburgh State charged back, as the Cardinals went on a four-point surge that included a pair of kills by sophomore middle blocker Ann Beauchamp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam). Plattsburgh State pulled within four points on one other occasion in the set but was unable to draw any closer, as the Cardinals fell, 25-13, in the first.

Plattsburgh State staked itself to an early 3-1 advantage in the second following a solo block by junior middle blocker Michelle Simmons (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly). Brockport scored three straight points to seize a 4-3 lead, and while a solo block by Simmons and a block assist by Beauchamp and freshman outside hitter/opposite Jenn Braun (Garrison, N.Y./Walter Panas) put the Cardinals on top, 5-4, the Golden Eagles broke the set open with seven unanswered points. Brockport went on to win the second, 25-14.

The Golden Eagles scored the first six points of the third set before the Cardinals countered with a 5-1 run. A service ace by Simmons drew Plattsburgh State within two at 7-5. While Brockport opened up a 14-7 cushion, an 8-2 Cardinal spurt that saw a pair of kills and a solo block by Simmons trimmed the gap to 16-15. Plattsburgh State was unable to score consecutive points the rest of the set, and Brockport clinched the match win by taking the third, 25-18.

Simmons led the Cardinals with five kills and four total blocks (three solo, one assist), while junior libero Abby Bone (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) and senior outside hitter Megan Hyde (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) defended nine and eight digs, respectively. Junior setter/defensive specialist Allyssa Rock (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) and senior setter/opposite Brianna Coon (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) combined for 11 assists.
