GENESEO, N.Y. – Despite nearly winning the second set, the Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team fell, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-8), to SUNY Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Carl Schrader Gymnasium.
The Knights hit .231 for the match and finished with the upper hand in service aces (6-2), blocks (5-2) and digs (58-45). Plattsburgh State fashioned a .179 hitting percentage in the second set, which included 12 kills and five errors on 39 total attempts.
Plattsburgh State falls to 5-11 overall (0-3 SUNYAC) with the loss and hosts Northern Vermont University-Johnson next on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. Geneseo rises to 8-7 overall (3-0 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts Buffalo State next on Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m.
The Cardinals took advantage of four Knight hitting miscues early in the first set to take a 4-2 lead, but Geneseo countered with four straight points to seize a 6-4 advantage. Plattsburgh State went back out in front after a Knight service error and back-to-back kills by sophomore middle blocker

Rachel Mennonna (Selden, N.Y./Newfield), but Geneseo went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-8 edge. While the Cardinals tied the score at 11-all, the Knights surged ahead with seven unanswered points and won the first set by a 25-17 score.
Down 20-13 in the second, Plattsburgh State came all the way back thanks to an 8-1 tear that included three kills by senior outside hitter
Megan Hyde (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont). Hyde's third kill of the run capped off the spurt and tied the score at 21-all. Geneseo's senior outside hitter Grace Cergol sided out the Cardinals before junior middle blocker
Michelle Simmons (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) knotted the tally back up with a kill. The Knights scored each of the set's final three points to win the second, 25-22.
Plattsburgh State was unable to gather enough momentum to stop a Geneseo attack firing on all cylinders in the third set, as the Knights hit .333 during the frame to power a match-clinching 25-8 win in the stanza.

For Geneseo, Cergol registered 10 kills and eight digs, while freshman setter Grace Thomas doled out 29 assists. Junior outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Frank led the back row defensively with 10 digs, while junior middle blocker Allison Wick posted three total blocks (one solo, two assist).
