CARLISLE, Pa. – Plattsburgh State men's soccer lost its season-opening match to Dickinson College 6-3 on Friday evening at Miller Memorial Field.
Plattsburgh State (0-1-0) fell behind Dickinson (1-0-0) 2-0 as the Red Devils received goals from Mohamed Kourouma and Tim O'Hare in the 16th and 41st minutes, respectively. Freshman forward
Cole Weiner (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) cut the Cardinals' deficit in half with his first collegiate goal in the 45th minute.
After halftime, Kevin Gilbert scored for Dickinson in the 52nd minute to make the score 3-1. However, freshman forward
Alex Graci (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) responded for Plattsburgh State – scoring his first collegiate goal in the 58th minute. The goal was assisted by junior midfielder
Cameron Richards (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck).
Plattsburgh State remained within striking distance with the score 3-2 until the Red Devils scored three consecutive goals to make the score 6-2. Ian Logan scored goals in the 83rd minute and the 86th minute, and O'Hare added his second goal of the match in the 87th minute.
Weiner scored his second goal of the match in the 88th minute, but the Cardinals were unable to pull any closer as the contest ended with the score 6-3 in favor of Dickinson.
Shots were 14-7 (7-6 in shots on goal) in favor of Dickinson.
Plattsburgh State held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) is now 0-1-0 on the season for Plattsburgh State, while John Baney is 1-0-0 for Dickinson.
Plattsburgh State returns to the field to face Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa., on Saturday, August 31 at 5 p.m. The Cardinals play their first home match of the season when they face Hobart College on Friday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m., as part of the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic.
