PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomores
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford),
Jack Bermingham (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and
Tom Bowe (Homer, AK/Homer) from the Plattsburgh State baseball team (11-17) all went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI in the Cardinals 8-4 win over the Union Dutchmen (14-13) Tuesday evening at Chip Cummings Field.
Plattsburgh State recorded nine hits to Union's six.
Union scored one run in the top of the fourth off an error for a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals recorded three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1.
Matz scored off a walk, junior
James Hartunian (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) scored off an error and sophomore
Anthony Maag (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) scored off a single from Bermingham.
In the bottom of the fifth Plattsburgh State made it 5-1 after Matz and Hartunian scored off a throwing error.
The Dutchmen scored two runs in the top of the sixth off a single and a walk to make it 5-3.
In the bottom of the sixth Bermingham singled up the middle. Junior
Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) pinch ran for Bermingham and scored off a sacrifice fly from Matz for a 6-3 edge.
The Cardinals scored two more in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-3 advantage.

Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown), who pinch ran for freshman
Zachary Hemphill (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone), and Mori scored off a single from Bowe.
Union scored in the top of the eighth off a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.
Plattsburgh States defense and pitching staff held off the Dutchmen for the four-run win.

Pierce Steinberg (Mahopac, N.Y./The Henry School) pitched 1.0 innings and struck out three.

Kyle Petruzzi (West Islip, N.Y./Suffolk CC) pitched 1.0 innings and gave up one hit and one run.

PJ Weeks (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) pitched 0.2 innings and gave up one hit, two runs, walked three and struck out one.

Alec Fauvell (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) picked up his first win of the season after pitching 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and struck out two.

Joe Mazzariello (Bronx, N.Y./Westlake) pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one hit, on run, walked one and struck out one.
The Cardinals will host Clarkson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
