PLATTBSURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State baseball team closed out their series against conference opponent Fredonia on Monday with a 6-2 win at Chip Cummings Field.
Plattsburgh State improves to 10-17 overall and 5-10 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia is now 11-18 overall and 8-7 in the conference.
Juniors
Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) and
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) both went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run.
Fredonia scored in the top of the first off a single to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals recorded two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 edge.
 Senior
Rocco Cipriano (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) singled to left center to drive in S. Bryant and junior
Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) scored off a sacrifice fly from junior
Stephen Lydon (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Suffolk CC).
Kowalowski scored in the bottom of the third off a sacrifice bunt from Lydon to make it 3-1.
Sophomore
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) scored in the bottom of the sixth off a single from senior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) and scored again in the bottom of the eighth off a single from junior
Santino Ycaza (Mastic, N.Y./Brentwood Sonderling) for a 5-1 advantage.
Ycaza made it 6-1 when he scored off a sacrifice fly from Mori in the bottom of the eighth.
Fredonia scored a run in the top of the ninth but the Plattsburgh State defense and pitching staff held them off to take the four-run win.
Senior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) pitched 2.0 innings and gave up two hits, one run and walked two.
Sophomore
Matthew Triola (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) picked up the win after pitching 7.0 innings and allowed four hits, one run, walked one and struck out three.
The Cardinals will host Union College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
