MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Senior Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) scored the lone run for the Plattsburgh State baseball team (8-16) in their 17-1 loss to Middlebury (17-8) Wednesday evening at Forbes Field.

The Cardinals recorded five hits to the Panthers 19.

Mori, senior Rocco Cipriano (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry), junior James Hartunian (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), junior Santino Ycaza (Mastic, N.Y./Brentwood Sonderling) and sophomore Jack Bermingham ((Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) all recorded hits.

Middlebury scored two runs in the bottom of the first off a sacrifice fly and a ground out.

They scored four in the bottom of the second off a double, a single and a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fourth, they scored off another two-run single and scored in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice bunt.

The Panthers recorded four runs in the bottom of the sixth off a sacrifice fly, a single, a wild pitch and an error.

Mori scored in the top of the seventh off a sacrifice fly from senior Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West).

Middlebury scored three in the bottom of the seventh off a two-run double and a single.

The Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the eight off a double.

Freshmen Joe Mazzariello (Bronx, N.Y./Westlake) pitched 1.2 innings and gave up five hits, five runs, walked one and struck out two.

Senior Frank Finkbeiner (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four hits, three runs and walked one.

Senior Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) pitched 1.0 innings and gave up two hits, one run and walked two.

Junior Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y./Bellport) pitched 0.2 innings and allowed three hits, four runs and walked two.

Junior Chris Dreier (Mahopac, N.Y./ Dutchess CC) pitched 1.1 innings and gave up three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out one.

Senior PJ Weeks (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) pitched 1.0 innings and allowed two hits, one run and walked one.

The Cardinals will host Fredonia next.
