Wolff Scores Man-Up With 6.2 Seconds Left in Regulation; Seals Men's Lacrosse's 12-11 Comeback Win Over Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore attackman Connor Wolff (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored man-up with 6.2 seconds left in regulation to give the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team a come-from-behind 12-11 win over SUNY Oneonta in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Wednesday afternoon at Red Dragon Field.

After senior midfielder Kevin Murphy (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored unassisted with 1:01 left in regulation to tie the game at 11-all, freshman face-off specialist Daniel Umbro (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) won the ensuing face-off thanks to a ground ball by junior long-stick midfielder Kyle Smith (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) off the draw. With the shot clock irrelevant based on the time remaining, the Cardinals settled into the offensive side of the field and ultimately called a timeout with exactly 24 seconds left.

While driving toward the left, sophomore midfielder James Sherwood (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) absorbed a push by a Red Dragon defender, and the pushing penalty was enforced with 10.6 seconds left on the clock to give Plattsburgh State an extra-man opportunity. Coming out of a timeout, Murphy passed up top to junior midfielder Kevin Litchauer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington), and Litchauer fired a pass through traffic to Wolff just outside of the crease. Wolff caught the pass, spun and fired a shot past the Red Dragon goalie to give Plattsburgh State the lead, its first of the game, with 6.2 seconds remaining on the clock.

Oneonta won the ensuing face-off but was unable to get the ball down the field to set up its offense, sealing the Cardinals' comeback victory.

Litchauer buried a man-up goal at 13:13 of the second to put the Cardinals on the board, and after Fay extended the Oneonta lead to 4-1 at 9:39 of the second, Smith found the back of the net 22 seconds later to draw the Cardinals within 4-2. While senior attackman Stephen Panno cashed in on a pass from Moore with 5:47 left in the second quarter, freshman attackman Zach Gill (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) and Wolff each scored to pull the Cardinals within a goal at 5-4. Junior attackman Jack Mullen (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned the assist on Wolff's score. Panno extended the Oneonta edge back out to two with 37 seconds remaining in the half, as he found twine on a feed from sophomore midfielder Andrew Stamatel.
