TROY, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team posted its first win in program history Saturday afternoon at ACP Field, defeating The Sage Colleges, 17-1, in non-conference action. It also marked the first win at Plattsburgh State for head coach
Julia Decker, who won 26 games over three years as the head coach at NCAA Division II Fort Lewis College from 2015-17.
The Cardinals built up an 11-0 lead in the first half and cruised during the second half as well, outscoring the Gators, 6-1. Plattsburgh State finished with a 43-11 edge in shots and went 11-for-15 on clears, while the Cardinal defense clamped down in limiting Sage to 10 successful clears in 29 total attempts. The Cardinals won both the ground ball (32-26) and draw control (13-7) battles as well. Plattsburgh State was 4-for-11 on free-position shots, while Sage was 0-for-4.
Plattsburgh State rises to 1-1 overall with the win and next hosts Norwich University in its inaugural home game on Monday, March 11, at 4 p.m. Sage falls to 0-1 overall with the loss and next hosts Medaille College on Tuesday, March 12, at 3 p.m.

Reece Wiley (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) netted a pair of markers. Vangas, Porcaro and Caoili all scored to make it a 10-0 game before freshman attacker
Sammy Tanner (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) registered her first collegiate goal with 3:33 left in the first to give Plattsburgh State an 11-0 halftime lead.
Wiley netted a woman-down goal 45 seconds into the second half on an assist from Caoili before Wiley and Vangas ballooned the Cardinal lead to 14-0. Sage's freshman defender Kerry McKeown got the home team on the board midway through the second half, but the Cardinals were the only team to score after that, receiving goals from junior attacker
Katelyn McGlauflin (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville), Wiley and Tanner down the stretch. It marked the first collegiate goal for McGlauflin.
Wiley and Caoili led the Cardinal offense with five points each, with Wiley scoring five goals and Caoili netting four goals and adding an assist. Megan Slovensky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) excelled on the defensive side of the field with five ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnvoers, while Wiley controlled six draws and had four ground balls.
For Sage, McKeown had the team's lone goal, which was assisted by sophomore attacker Sophia Pierce. Freshman defender Alexandra Lettre helped the Gators out on the defensive end with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, while sophomore goalie Carly Plaisance scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls.
