YAPHANK, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team is now 2-3 overall after a pair of losses to Purchase College (3-0) on Saturday at Baseball Heaven.
GAME ONE: PLATTSBURGH 2, PURCHASE 5
Senior
Rocco Cipriano (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) hit a homerun in the top of the second to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead.
Purchase tied the game in the bottom of the third off a double.
Senior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) hit a single to plate junior
Stephen Lydon (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Suffolk CC) in the top of the fourth for a 2-1 edge.
Purchase tied the game again in the bottom of the fourth off another double and recorded three runs in the sixth off a single and a two-run homer.
The Purchase defense held off Plattsburgh State in the seventh to take the 5-2 win.
Senior
Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took the loss after pitching five innings and gave up six hits, three runs, walked two and struck out eight.
Sophomore
Matthew Triola (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior
Chris Dreier (Mahopac, N.Y./ Dutchess CC) both allowed one hit and one run.
GAME TWO: PLATTSBURGH 0, PURCHASE 4
The Cardinals could not get the bats swinging in the second game while Purchase was able to score four runs off seven hits.
They scored in the first inning off a passed ball, scored two in the fifth off sacrifice bunt and a double and scored one in the sixth off another double.
Senior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) took the loss after pitching 4.2 innings and gave up five hits, three runs, walked two and struck out nine.
Senior
Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) pitched 1.1 innings and allowed two hits, one run, walked one and struck out one.
Plattsburgh State will travel to Lexington, S.C. to play a three game series against SUNYAC foe Oswego on March 16 and 17.
