PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team received two goals from freshman attacker
Sammy Tanner (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley), but the Cardinals wound up suffering a 20-3 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) setback to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
Geneseo held the upper hand in shots (35-14), ground balls (29-15) and draw controls (15-9) and went 19-for-23 on clears. Plattsburgh State was 11-for-22 on clear attempts. On free-position shots, the Knights were 2-for-5, while the Cardinals were 1-for-6.
Plattsburgh State falls to 1-8 overall (0-3 SUNYAC) with the loss and hosts SUNY Potsdam next on Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m. Geneseo rises to 5-4 overall (1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts Fredonia on Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m.

Mia Tallerico (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) to find the back of the cage with 23 seconds left in regulation. Freshman midfielder/defender
Claire Wiley (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) helped pace the Cardinals in the defensive and possession battles with four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
For Geneseo, sophomore attacker Hannah Marafioti led the way with seven points on five goals and two assists, while freshman midfielder Emma Gaenzle had five points on four goals and one assist. Senior defender Mallory Max (three goals, one assist) and sophomore attacker Nicole Voci (four assists) each tallied four points, while sophomore midfielder Megan Henderson (two goals, one assist) and senior midfielder Maddie Lee (three goals) posted three points apiece. Marafioti, Lee and sophomore defender Caitlyn Merkel all finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Merkel controlled 10 draws.

Kaitlyn Boyea-Guynup (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) made one stop in 22:01 of action. Geneseo's three goalies combined to make five saves in the win.
Prior to the start of the game, Plattsburgh State director of intercollegiate athletics
and recreation Mike Howard took a ceremonial draw in commemoration of the
inaugural season of women's lacrosse at Plattsburgh State.
