Caoili Records Five Points in Women's Lacrosse's 18-7 Loss to Potsdam

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman attacker Emily Caoili (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) recorded a career-high-tying five points on three goals and two assists, as the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team fell, 18-7, to SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at the Field House Complex.
 
Despite the 11-goal differential, the box score was relatively even. Potsdam outshot Plattsburgh State, 29-24, and won the ground ball battle, 25-24, while the home team finished with a 16-10 cushion on draw controls. The Cardinals were 10-for-17 on clears, while the Bears were 18-for-29. On free-position shots, Potsdam was 4-for-4, while Plattsburgh State was 3-for-6.
 
Plattsburgh State drops to 1-9 overall (0-4 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits The College at Brockport on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m. Potsdam rises to 3-7 overall (1-3 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits Oswego State on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
 
Freshman midfielder Reece Wiley (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) and Caoili scored back-to-back goals to open the game, but Potsdam closed the half on a 10-1 run to enter the halftime intermission with a 10-3 lead. During that stretch, senior midfielder Cayla O'Connor scored four goals, including one of the woman-down variety. Though the Cardinals scored four times in the second half, the Bears buried eight markers in the period to come away with the win.
 
In addition to Caoili, junior defender Katelyn McGlauflin (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) tallied two points on a goal and an assist, while sophomore attacker/midfielder Kerri Corcoran (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), Wiley and freshman attacker/midfielder Allie Vangas (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) each scored once. Corcoran and Wiley each controlled six draws, while Vangas caused a career-high five turnovers and scooped up four ground balls.
 
For Potsdam, O'Connor scored six goals, while junior midfielder Alexa Ferrer buried four. Junior attacker Alli Stark (one goal and two assists) and sophomore midfielder Zoe Morgenroth (three goals) registered three points, while senior midfielder Meaghan Paige scored once and had an assist. O'Connor also added six ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers.
 
Freshman goalie Alexa Cassidy (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick) and junior goalie Kaitlyn Boyea-Guynup (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) combined to make six saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while senior goalie Katie Longamore turned aside 13 shots in the win for the Bears.
