BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team picked up their first two SUNYAC wins on Friday after sweeping Brockport 5-3 and 4-3 at Clarl V. Whited field.
Plattsburgh State is now 4-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference while Brockport moves to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
GAME ONE: Plattsburgh State 5, Brockport 3
Plattsburgh State recorded 10 hits while Brockport had seven.
Brockport took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third off a throwing error and a single.
The Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a two-run lead.
Junior
Stephen Lydon (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Suffolk CC) hit a two-run double to plate sophomore
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and senior
Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches).
Lydon scored off a single from sophomore
Simon Alvarez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and Alvarez scored off a single from junior
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown).
Matz scored again in the top of the ninth off a single from Lydon to make it 5-2.
Brockport scored their third run in the bottom of the ninth off a walk.
Senior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) picked up his first win of the season after pitching 8.1 innings. Fox allowed seven hits, three runs, walked one and struck out four.
Sophomore
Matthew Triola (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) pitched 0.2 innings and faced two batters.
GAME TWO: Plattsburgh State 4, Brockport 3
The Cardinals scored four runs off five hits while Brockport recorded 10 hits and only had three runs.
Brockport scored in the bottom of the third off a single and Plattsburgh State tied it in the top of the fourth when Kowalowski doubled down the left field line to plate Alvarez.
Brockport had a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-1.
Freshman
Zachary Hemphill (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) scored in the top of the seventh off a ground out and Kowalowski stole home to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
Senior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) scored the winning run in the top of the eighth off an error.
P. Bryant pitched 5.1 innings and gave up eight hits, three runs, walked two and struck out six.
Triola picked up his first win after pitching 1.2 inning and allowed two hits and walked two.
Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) got the save after pitching 1.0 inning and walking one.
The Cardinals will finish their series against Brockport on Saturday at 11 a.m.
