Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 15 Cortland, 21-1, in Inaugural SUNYAC Game

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team fell to 20-time defending conference champion and nationally-ranked No. 15 SUNY Cortland, 21-1, in the Cardinals' inaugural State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
 
Cortland is ranked at No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Coaches Poll.
 
Freshman attacker Emily Caoili (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) was the lone Cardinal to score in the contest, finding the back of the net 4:25 into the second half.
 
Cortland finished with a 33-3 edge in shots and held the advantage in ground balls (19-7) and draw controls (17-5) as well. The Red Dragons were a perfect 6-for-6 on clear attempts.
 
Plattsburgh State falls to 1-6 overall with the loss and visits SUNY New Paltz next on Wednesday, March 27, at 4 p.m. Cortland rises to 3-3 overall with the win and hosts SUNY Potsdam next on Wednesday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m.
 
Cortland was paced by sophomore attackers Cecilia Procopio (one goal, three assists) and Emily Goebel (two goals, two assists) and senior attacker Madison Lyon (one goal, three assists), who posted four points apiece. Freshman midfielder Amy Hoeffner (three goals), sophomore attacker Paige Hommel (two goals, one assist) and senior midfielder Carly Stone (two goals, one assist) each had three points, while junior midfielder Lexie Meager (two assists), junior attacker Molly Newton (one goal, one assist), junior midfielder Brie Yonge (two goals), junior attacker Baylee Ojeda (two goals), sophomore midfielder Hannah Lorenzen (one goal, one assist) and freshman attacker Katie Goodrich (two goals) finished with two points each.
 
Freshman goalie Alexa Cassidy (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick) made three saves in the first half before junior goalie Kaitlyn Boyea-Guynup (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) stopped seven shots in the second half. Cortland had three goalies combine for two saves.
