Matz Scores Two Runs In Cardinals' 4-2 Loss To NYU

TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) of the Plattsburgh State baseball team scored both of the Cardinals runs in their 4-2 loss to NYU on Tuesday at Steinbrenner Field.

Plattsburgh State is now 2-7 overall while NYU moves to 8-2.

Junior Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) had two of the Cardinals three hits while freshmen Jake Hutton (Albany, N.Y./ Colonie) had one.

NYU scored one run in the first off a walk and two more runs in the second off a triple to left center and ground out.

The Cardinals got their first run in the third when Hutton hit a double down the right field line to plate Matz.

NYU scored their fourth run in the fifth off a wild pitch.

Matz scored again in the eighth off a sacrifice fly from Kowalowski.

Sophomore Matthew Triola (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) pitched 2.0 innings and allowed five hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two.  

Junior Kyle Petruzzi (West Islip, N.Y./Suffolk CC) pitched 2.1 inning and allowed one hit, one run, walked one and struck out one.

Junior Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) pitched 1.0 inning and walked one.

Freshmen Joe Mazzariello (Bronx, N.Y./Westlake) pitched 1.1 innings and walked one and struck out one.

Senior Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and struck out two.

Plattsburgh State will play NYU tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Tampa, Fla.
