Women's Lacrosse Downed by Bard, 19-6

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision to non-conference Bard College on Wednesday afternoon at Ferrari Field.
 
Bard held the upper hand in shots (34-13), clears (6-for-9 for the Raptors, 4-for-11 for the Cardinals), ground balls (24-9) and draw controls (15-12). The Raptors went 5-for-7 on free-position shots, while the Cardinals were 2-for-3.
 
Plattsburgh State drops to 1-3 overall with the loss and next visits Hartwick College, on Tuesday, March 19, at 4 p.m. Bard rises to 3-1 overall with the win and next visits No. 18 William Smith College on Saturday, March 16, at 12 p.m.
 
Bard scored the first 10 goals of the game before sophomore attacker/midfielder Frankie Porcaro (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) put the Cardinals on the board with 11:14 left in the first quarter. The Raptors received a goal from senior midfielder Dylan McDonald and junior attacker Caleigh DeCaprio, while junior midfielder Melissa Rosenthal scored twice to give Bard a 14-1 advantage at the half.
 
Porcaro tallied twice in the opening 1:29 of the second half, with her second goal being assisted by freshman attacker Allie Vangas (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall), before Bard scored three unanswered goals—one by senior midfielder Nicole Ellin and two by Rosenthal. Porcaro and Vangas each scored midway through the second half before sophomore midfielder Emily Levine connected with McDonald for a woman-up goal. Freshman attacker Sammy Tanner (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) scored a woman-up goal on a Porcaro feed before Bard's senior attacker Casey Witte buried the final goal of the game on an assist from Rosenthal with 3:35 left.
 
Porcaro led the Cardinals with five points on four goals and one assist in addition to controlling six draws and scooping up three ground balls. Vangas had two points on a goal and an assist, while Tanner also scored.
 
For Bard, Rosenthal paced the attack with eight points (six goals, two assists) in addition to posting seven draw controls. DeCaprio had seven points on four goals and three assists, while Witte and McDonald each scored three times.
 
Freshman goalie Alexa Cassidy (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick) made 10 saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while sophomore goalie Izabel Kickner turned aside three shots in the win for the Raptors.
