PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 23 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team (19-4, 13-3 SUNYAC) handed Oswego State (18-4, 13-2 SUNYAC) their second conference loss of the season on Saturday inside Memorial Hall gymnasium beating them 67-56.
The Cardinals out-shot the Lakers 54.3% to 36.7% from the floor and out-rebounded them 35-34.
Senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) led the Cardinals with 19 points, picked up eight rebounds and had seven assists.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) recorded his 15th double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) had 11 points and senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had ten points.
The lead changes nine times in the first half before Plattsburgh State took it.
Johnson put in a three-pointer followed by Patron with a layup for a four point edge with 11:08 on the clock.
Johnson drained another three-pointer and Middleton had a jumper for a seven-point cushion two minutes later.
With 8:18 on the clock DeAngelis drained a three for an eight point edge.
Oswego tied the game 27-27 with 3:52 left in the half but two free throws from Johnson gave the Cardinals a 29-27 advantage heading into halftime.
Plattsburgh State out-scored Oswego 38-29 in the second half.
The Lakers tied the game 29-29 to start the second half and tied it again 33-33 with 17:50 left.
DeAngelis drained a three and made a jumper followed by a free throw from senior forward
Ian Howard(Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) for a six-point edge.
The Cardinals took a nine-point cushion after two layups from Patron with 12:47 on the clock.
One minute later Plattsburgh State had a 12-point advantage after two jumpers from Middleton.
Oswego came within three points of the lead with 8:16 on the clock but the Cardinals were able to extend it back to 12-points with 4:45 left in the game.
The Lakers put in a layup in the final minutes but fouled DeAngelis who made one free throw for the 11-point win.
The Cardinals are on the road Friday, Feb. 15, to play Oneonta at 7:30 p.m.
