ONEONTA, N.Y. – Despite out-shooting Oneonta 39.4% to 38.6% from the floor the No. 21 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team suffered an 80-62 road loss Friday night inside Dewar Arena.
Plattsburgh State moves to 19-5 overall and 13-4 in the SUNYAC while Oneonta is now 14-10 overall and 9-8 in the conference.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) recorded 18 points and eight rebounds, senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had 14 points and seven rebounds and senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) had 13 points.
The lead changes seven times and was tied four times in the first half.
Oneonta took control of the game early and Patron took a one-point edge twice within the first three minutes each time with a layup.
The Red Dragons kept taking the lead back and senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) gave the Cardinals a one-point cushion with 16:31 on the clock.
Oneonta went on a nine-point run for an eight-point advantage with 14:13 left in the half.
Patron had a layup, Howard had a free throw and Patron put in two free throws to cut the deficit to three points.
A layup from Johnson brought the Cardinals within one point of the lead and Middleton tied the game 20-20 with a free throw with 8:31 remaining in the half.
Oneonta had a seven-point cushion with 6:55 left and Plattsburgh State went on a ten-point run.
Junior forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) had a layup, junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) put in a layup, Johnson made a layup, sophomore guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) put in a jumper and Howard had a layup from a three-point edge.
The Red Dragons tied the game 32-32 with a three pointer and Cox made a layup followed by Middleton with two jumpers for a six-point advantage.
Oneonta ended the half with a 12-point spree including three, three-pointers, to head into halftime up 44-38.
The Red Dragons out-scored the Cardinals 36-24 in the second half to take the 18-point win.
Plattsburgh State will play New Paltz in their last regular season game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
