Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Mark Vasey, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Women’s Soccer Edged by No. 16 SUNY Geneseo 2-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer allowed two second-half goals and fell to No. 16 SUNY Geneseo 2-0 in State University of New York Athletic Conference play on Friday at the Field House Complex. 
 
Plattsburgh State (4-4-1, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) outshot Geneseo (8-2-1, 2-0-1 SUNYAC) 9-2 in the first half, but the match remained scoreless going into halftime. Plattsburgh State's freshman goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (4-4-1) made a leaping save in the 23rd minute as she tipped a Geneseo shot over the top of the net. Geneseo's Julia McDonald (8-2-1) made two saves in the half.
 
In the second half, Plattsburgh State was outscored 2-0. The Knights' first goal of the match came in the 47th minute. Lindsey Wright played the ball ahead along the right wing. Ennis came out to try and cut off the pass, but Grace Dunnigan got to the ball first in the right side of the 18-yard box and scored into the vacated net. 
 
Hannah Sullivan scored Geneseo's second goal of the match in the 74th minute. A Knight played the ball down the right sideline, where Sullivan battled a Cardinal defender for the ball. Sullivan, who won the ball, entered the right side of the 18-yard box, dribbled to near the penalty spot, and scored into the lower-left corner with a left-footed strike.
 
Plattsburgh State was unable to come back and the match ended with the score 2-0 in favor of Geneseo.
 
The Cardinals held a 12-11 edge in shots, but the Knights had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Each team took six corner kicks in the match.
 
Plattsburgh State next faces The College at Brockport in a SUNYAC match at 1 p.m. tomorrow. SUNY Geneseo travels to Potsdam for a SUNYAC match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
