Women’s Soccer Shuts Out SUNY New Paltz 1-0 to Clinch Berth in SUNYAC Tournament

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer shut out SUNY New Paltz 1-0 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match on Friday at the Field House Complex to clinch a berth in the 2019 SUNYAC Tournament.

Plattsburgh State (8-6-1, 4-3-1 SUNYAC), which is in fourth place in the SUNYAC standings, has made the SUNYAC Tournament for six consecutive seasons. New Paltz (4-10-2, 1-6-1 SUNYAC) sits in ninth place and has been eliminated from playoff contention.

The only goal of the match came in the ninth minute. Sophomore forward Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) played a ball ahead into the 18-yard box as sophomore forward Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) timed a run. Seidman got to the ball and one-touched a shot that hit off of the goalkeeper's fingertips and then off of the right post. However, Seidman got her own rebound and finished into a vacated net to make the score 1-0. The goal is Seidman's third of the season and her second game-winning tally.

The Plattsburgh State defense and freshman goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (7-6-1) preserved the lead as the Cardinals held on for the 1-0 victory. The Cardinals, which held a 17-7 edge in shots, limited New Paltz to one shot attempt in the second half. Ennis made three saves in the match to earn the victory.

Megan Tornatore (4-10-2) made three saves in net for New Paltz.

Corner kicks were 3-2 in favor of New Paltz.

Plattsburgh State concludes regular-season play against SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Field House Complex. Prior to the match, the Cardinals will be recognizing their seniors as part of Senior Day. Oneonta is tied for eighth place in the SUNYAC standings, but has not been eliminated from playoff contention.
