OSWEGO, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) scored her team-high ninth goal of the season to lead Plattsburgh State women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Oswego State in State University of New York Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Laker Turf Stadium.
Plattsburgh State (7-6-1, 3-3-1 SUNYAC) moved into fourth place in the SUNYAC standings with the win and Oswego State (2-13-0, 0-7-0 SUNYAC) remained in 10th place.
In the first half, Villemaire scored in the sixth minute to make the score 1-0. Plattsburgh State outshot Oswego State 8-4 in the first half and held a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Plattsburgh State outshot Oswego State 11-2 and held on for the 1-0 victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Tina Bedard (Morrisonville, N.Y./Saranac) (1-0-0), making her first career start, made two saves to earn her first collegiate victory and first career shutout.
Emma Allen (1-11-0) started for the Lakers and played the first 31:49 of the match. Allen allowed the lone goal and did not record a save. Sophia Portalatin made five saves in 58:11 of action in relief of Allen.
Plattsburgh State held a 19-6 edge in shots, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Corner kicks were 6-2 in favor of the Cardinals.
Plattsburgh State hosts SUNY New Paltz for a SUNYAC match at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Field House Complex. Oswego State hosts Fredonia at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at Laker Turf Stadium.
