CORTLAND, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's soccer was edged by SUNY Cortland 1-0 in State University of New York Athletic Conference play on Friday at Holloway Field.
Following the match, Plattsburgh State (6-6-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) is in sixth place in the SUNYAC standings with seven points and Cortland (8-5-1, 5-0-1 SUNYAC) is in second place with 16 points.
Plattsburgh State outshot Cortland 6-5 in the first half and 11-6 in the match, but Cortland scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute. Ro Hernandez dribbled down the right side of the field and crossed the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box to Jaden Galluzo, who one-touched a shot into the upper-right corner of the net.
The Cardinals had a scoring opportunity in the 82nd minute, but a pass from
Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) went through the 18-yard box and just wide of the left post. Sophomore forward
Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) led the Cardinals with seven shots and four shots on goal. However, Plattsburgh State was unable to find an equalizer and the match ended with the score 1-0 in favor of the Red Dragons.
Freshman goalkeeper
Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (6-6-1) made three saves for Plattsburgh State and Danika Svendsen (8-5-1) stopped six shots for Cortland.
Corner kicks were 4-0 in favor of Cortland.
Plattsburgh State travels to Oswego State for a SUNYAC match at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Cortland hosts SUNY Potsdam for a SUNYAC match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
