PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team picked up their 15th consecutive win over Potsdam on Tuesday evening inside Memorial Hall with a score of 72-69.
Plattsburgh State improves to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the SUNYAC while Potsdam falls to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) recorded a career high of 26 points including going 12-16 from the free throw line and added three assists.
Senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) had 16 points shooting 5-6 from behind the arc and picked up a team high of seven rebounds.
Freshmen forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) scored nine points, had five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Potsdam led by one point after the first quarter.
Durnin started the second quarter with a jumper and two free throws followed by a layup from Walker for a five-point edge.
Potsdam tied the game twice before halftime and took a four-point lead with 1:48 left in the quarter.
Two free throws from sophomore guard
Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) and two more from Durnin tied the game 27-27 with 34 seconds remaining.
Sophomore guard/ forward
Lauren Lawliss (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) was able to put in a layup at the buzzer to give the Cardinals a 29-27 advantage at halftime.
The Bears out-scored Plattsburgh State 22-17 in the third and took a 49-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals went on an eight-point run to start the final quarter.
Lawless made a jumper followed by two free throws from both Durnin and Quinn, a free throw from freshmen guard
Kayla Doody (Troy, N.Y. / Tamarac) and another free throw by Durnin for a five-point cushion.
Potsdam tied the game 62-62 with 3:14 left.
Durnin made two more free throws and DePasquale drained a three for a three-point edge.
The Bears came within one point but a free throw from Walker and two more from Durnin gave the Cardinals a four-point advantage.
Potsdam put in a layup with ten second left in the game but fouled Durnin who made one more free throw to seal the Cardinals three-point win.
The Bears out-rebounded Plattsburgh State 45-37 but the Cardinals recorded 24 points off Potsdams 18 turnovers.
Plattsburgh State is back home Friday, Jan. 11, to continue conference play as they host Buffalo State at 5:30 p.m.
