SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior forward
Ashley Songin (Springville, N.Y./Nichols School) of the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team has been named the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27, 2019, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
This marks Songin's first-ever NEWHL Player of the Week honor.
Songin recorded three points on two goals and an assist while registering a +2 rating in a conference sweep of Oswego State over the weekend. She scored on the power play at 3:23 of the third period in a 6-1 win over the Lakers on Friday before scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a 4-0 victory against Oswego on Saturday.
For the season, the alternate captain has nine points on five goals and four assists
The Cardinals (17-2-0, 12-0-0 NEWHL) next host non-conference Amherst College on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m.
