PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team downed SUNY Geneseo 78-64 Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall to improve to 14-4 overall and 8-3 in the SUNYAC while the Knights move to 5-12 and 2-8 in the conference.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) led the Cardinals with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had 18 points and eight rebounds, junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) scored 12 points, senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) had eight points and six rebounds while senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) recorded eight assists and three steals.
The Cardinals out-rebounded the Knights 51-34 and scored 18 points off their 14 turnovers.
The first half was tied three times and the lead changed three timed before Plattsburgh State took and kept it.
DeAngelis drained back-to-back three-pointers for a four-point edge at the 13:08 mark.
The Cardinals took an eight-point cushion after another three from DeAngelis and a layup from junior forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) with 10:59 left.
Plattsburgh State had a ten-point lead with 3:46 remaining after layups from freshman center
Taylor Mason (Muncy, PA / Hughesville), Patron and Middleton.
Geneseo was able to cut the Cardinals lead to five-points by the end of the half for a halftime score of 35-30.
The Knights tied the game twice in the first four minutes of the second half.
Plattsburgh State took a seven-point cushion after one free throw from Howard and two free throws and a layup from Middleton.
The Cardinals extended their lead to 11-points halfway through the half after an old-fashioned three-pointer from Patron and a jumper from Johnson.
Geneseo put in a three-pointer and Jaquish put in a layup followed by a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) for a 13-point advantage at the 8:43 mark.
The Knights put in a three-pointer with 38 seconds left and the Cardinals ended the game with a jumper from Middleton and two free throws from Patron for the 14-point win.
Plattsburgh State is away Tuesday, Jan. 29 to continue SUNYAC play against Potsdam with a 7:30 p.m. start.
