PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- Junior forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) recorded a career high of 16 rebounds and added seven points and five blocks in the Plattsburgh State women's basketball 54-50 win over Brockport Friday night inside Memorial Hall.
The Cardinals improve to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles move to 6-10, 4-5 in the conference.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) scored 22 points while freshman forward
Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) had 11 points and senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) had nine and added three steals.
Freshmen forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) picked up eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Brockport 45-43 and scored 16 points off their 20 turnovers.
The lead changed five times in the first quarter before the Cardinals took and kept it and headed into the second quarter up 15-11.
Brockport tied the game 15-15 but a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) kept the Cardinals afloat.
The Golden Eagles went on a seven-point run for a four-point advantage.
A layup from Durnin and a three-pointer from DePasquale gave Plattsburgh State a two-point edge.
Brockport finished the second quarter with two free throws and a layup to head into halftime up 28-26.
Plattsburgh State held Brockport to just eight points in the third quarter to their 12.
Durnin tied the game 30-30 with a free throw and made a layup followed by Clare with a jumper for a four-point cushion.
The Cardinals took a six-point edge after two free throws from freshmen guard
Kayla Doody (Troy, N.Y. / Tamarac) but the Golden Eagles ended the quarter with a free throw and a three-pointer to cut the lead to two points.
The game was tied 40-40 with 8:07 left and Brockport took a one point lead.
Clare put in a jumper and DePasquale drained a three-pointer for a four-point cushion.
The Cardinals kept the lead the remainder for the game and ended it with two free throws from Degnan for the four-point win.
Plattsburgh State is back home Saturday, Jan. 26 to host Geneseo at 2 p.m.
