SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman forward Taylor Whitney (Livonia, Mich./Little Caesars) of the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team has been named the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Rookie of the Week for the period ending Jan. 20, 2019, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
 
This marks Whitney's first-ever NEWHL Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Whitney tallied four points and authored a +4 rating in a NEWHL weekend sweep of SUNY Cortland. She scored her first collegiate hat trick in an 11-1 victory over Cortland on Friday, completing the feat midway through the second period. Whitney then tallied the first goal 8:43 into the first period in a 6-1 win over the Red Dragons on Saturday.
 
She currently is tied for 10th in NCAA Division III in points per game among freshmen (1.00) and has 15 points on six goals and nine assists for the season.
 
The Cardinals (15-2-0, 10-0-0 NEWHL) next host Oswego State on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. to open up a weekend NEWHL series.
