1/22/2019 1:29:00 PM

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second straight week, sophomore forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) of the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team has been named the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. She earned the award for the period ending Jan. 20, 2019.

This marks Katonka's third NEWHL Player of the Week honor this season, as she also earned the distinction on Nov. 20 and Jan. 15.

Katonka tallied seven points on four goals and three assists and fashioned a +5 rating in a NEWHL weekend sweep of SUNY Cortland. She scored a hat trick and added an assist in an 11-1 victory over Cortland on Friday before netting a power-play goal and chipping in two assists in a 6-1 win over the Red Dragons on Saturday.

For the season, Katonka ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in power-play goals (tied for second, 7), points per game (fourth, 1.71) and goals per game (fourth, 1.06), and she leads the NEWHL in point scoring (29) and goals (18).

The Cardinals (15-2-0, 10-0-0 NEWHL) next host Oswego State on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. to open up a weekend NEWHL series.
