CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team (7-9, 4-5 SUNYAC) fell to Cortland (7-8, 3-6) 60-51 in overtime Saturday evening inside Whitney T. Corey Gymnasium.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) led the team with 22 points and picked up five rebounds.
Freshman forward
Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) scored 11 points and had five rebounds while senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) an sophomore guard/ forward
Lauren Lawliss (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) each had six points.
After Cortland put in the first basket of the game Plattsburgh State went one a 15-point run.
Degnan put in an old fashioned three-pointer, Depasquale, Durnin and sophomore guard
Theresa Quinn(Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) all had three-pointers and Durnin drained another three.
Cortland put in a jumper and DePasquale finished the quarter with another three-pointer for an 18-4 lead.
The Cardinals started the second quarter with a jumper from Lawliss for their largest lead of 16-points but the Red Dragons out-scored Plattsburgh State 17-8 for a halftime score of 26-21 in favor of Plattsburgh State.
The third quarter was close with the Cardinals scoring 10 points to the Red Dragons six points for a score of 36-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
Cortland went off in the fourth quarter recording 18 points to the Cardinals nine points and tied the game 45-45 with seven seconds left to force an overtime.
The Red Dragons took a four-point lead to start overtime and Plattsburgh State tied it 49-49 with two free throws by Degnan and a layup from Durnin.
Cortland went on a nine-point run and Durnin made a layup but the Red Dragons finished the game with two free throws.
Plattsburgh State is home Friday, Jan. 25 to host The College at Brockport at 5:30 p.m.
