Howard Double-Doubles, Patron Scores 28 Points In No. 15 Men’s Basketball 86-84 Loss To Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 15 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team (12-3, 6-2 SUNYAC) fell to Oswego State (13-2, 8-0 SUNYAC) 86-84 Friday night inside Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Senior forward Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Senior forward Jonathan Patron(Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) led the team with 28 points and added three assists while senior guard Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) recorded 18 points and three assists and senior guard/forward Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) scored 14 points.

Plattsburgh State started the game with a jumper from Patron, a layup from Middleton and a jumper from Johnson.

Oswego went on a seven-point run to take a one-point edge.

The lead changed three more times within one minute of play before Plattsburgh State took possession.

The Cardinals had an 11-point advantage with 12:40 left in the half after out-shooting the Lakers 16-4 after taking the lead.

Patron put in a layup, a jumper and two three-pointers, Hill made a three-pointer and Johnson added a three-pointer to put Plattsburgh State up 24-13.

Plattsburgh State had a 12-point cushion with 10:06 remaining in the first but Oswego went on a 12-point spree to come within one point.

The rest of the half remained close but a free throw from Johnson put the Cardinals ahead 48-45 at halftime.

The second half continued to be just as close and Plattsburgh State held onto the lead for the first three minutes until Oswego went on another 12-point run for an eight-point edge.

Plattsburgh State tied the game 75-75 with a three-pointer from Middleton with 7:12 left in the half and a layup from Howard gave them a two-point cushion.

Oswego tied the game 77-77 and took the lead but two free throws from Patron tied the game 79-79.

The Lakers drained a three-pointer and made two free throws and Plattsburgh State retaliated with a three from Middleton and three free throws from Patron for an 84-84 tie with 27 seconds left.

Oswego made the game winning basket of the game with 3.1 seconds remaining.

Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Oswego 31-27 and each team recorded nine turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in SUNYAC road action on Saturday as they face off with against the Cortland Red Dragons at 3 p.m.
