PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 17 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team (12-2, 6-1 SUNYAC) had three double-doubles and a career high in their 85-83 victory over Buffalo State (3-9, 1-5 SUNYAC) Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall.
Senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) recorded a career high of 14 assists and had 11 points and six rebounds.
Senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) led the Cardinals with 23 points while senior forward
Jonathan Patron(Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields), senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) and senior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) all recorded double-doubles.
Parton picked up 17 points and 14 rebounds, Howard had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Hill had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Buffalo State out-scored Plattsburgh State 41-38 in the first half.
The Cardinals had an 11-point lead after a 10-point run five minutes in.
Middleton had a jumper and a three-pointer, Howard made a free throw and a layup and Patron had a layup.
The remainder of the half was tied four times with the lead changing five times before the Bengals kept it until the end of the first.
The second half remained close but Buffalo State continued to maintain the lead.
The Cardinals closed in and tied it 63-63 with 7:35 left in the game.
Buffalo State took a two-point edge and Howard made a layup followed by a free throw and another layup for a three-point cushion.
The Bengals tied the game 68-68 with a three-pointer and the Cardinals retaliated with a free throw from Howard, a layup from Patron and three-pointer by junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) for a six-point advantage.
Buffalo State tied the game 83-83 with 15 seconds remaining in the game but a layup from Johnson with five seconds sealed Plattsburgh States victory.
The Cardinals are on the road Friday, Jan. 18, to play Oswego at 7:30 p.m.
