PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – For the first time since the 2013-14 season the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team (6-8, 3-4 SUNYAC) swept the Tuesday, Friday and Saturday match-up with their 71-67 win over Buffalo State (5-8, 2-4 SUNYAC) Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall.
Freshman forward
Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) recorded a career high of 19 points while freshmen forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) recorded a career high 14 rebounds and nine steals.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) led the team with 22 points and picked up eight assists.
Senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) had 11 rebounds and scored nine points.
Buffalo State out-scored Plattsburgh State 22-19 in the first quarter but the Cardinals held the Bengals to just nine points in the second and put up 20 to head into halftime up 39-31.
The Bengals had a 26-24 lead with 6:25 left in the second when Walker and Degnan each had lauyps and Durnin had an old fashioned three-pointer for a five point cushion.
Buffalo State made a basket and Plattsburgh State retaliated with a layup from Walker and a layup and free throw from Durnin for an eight-point advantage.
The Bengals drained a three and the Cardinals finished the quarter with another layup from Degnan and a free throw from Durnin.
Buffalo State came out into the third quarter with more hustle and again out-scored the Cardinals 22-19 but Plattsburgh State kept a five-point edge.
DePasquale started the fourth with a three-pointer but the Bengals went on a 12-point run for a four-point lead.
Degnan made a layup, Durnin had a free throw and DePasquale drained another three for a one-point edge.
Buffalo State tied the game 67-67 with 2:40 left but Plattsburgh State ended the game with a layup from Degnan and free throws from Durnin and Walker for the four point win.
Plattsburgh State is on the road Friday, Jan. 18, to play Oswego at 5:30 p.m.
