SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior defender
Jessica Mangieri (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) recorded her first collegiate and the game winning goal in the 73rd minute against Skidmore in the No. 14 Plattsburgh State women's soccer 2-1 victory Saturday night at Wachenheim Field.
Plattsburgh State improves to 5-1 overall while Skidmore moves to 3-2.
Junior defender
Amanda Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) also scored her first collegiate goal for the Cardinals first notch on the scoreboard.
Steinman scored in the 13th minute on a breakaway off a through ball from junior midfielder
Vina Nguyen (Shelburne, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union).
Plattsburgh State led at the half but were out-shot 8-2.
The Thoroughbreds retaliated in the 53rd minute off a rebound to tie the game 1-1.
Mangieri put the Cardinals back on top after launching the ball from the midfield and arcing it over the keepers reach into the top right corner of the net.
Graduate goalkeeper
Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) made eight saves in her 90:00 minutes between the pipes.
Skidmore out-shot Plattsburgh State 23-4 and had 11 corner kick opportunities while the Cardinals had zero.
Plattsburgh State will start conference play on Friday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Brockport for a 4 p.m. start.
