CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball tam ended their 2018 season with two losses to SUNY Canton on Sunday to finish with a 12-26 overall record.
GAME ONE: PLATTSBURGH STATE 3, CANTON 12
Sophomore
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) went 4-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Canton took a 3-0 lead after scoring two in the first off a double through the left side and a wild pitch and one in the second off a single to the right side.
Senior
Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) hit a single down the left field line to plate junior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) and Deland scored off a ground out to come within one run of Canton in the third.
The Kangaroos recorded five runs in the fourth off two, two-run singles and a one-run single.
Kowalowski doubled to left field to plate sophomore
Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan / Joto) for the Cardinals third run in the eighth.
Canton scored four more runs in the eighth off a two-run double, a single and a passed ball.
The Cardinals couldn't get the bats going and took the nine run loss.
Sophomore
Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y. / Westlake) pitched three innings and gave up four hits, three runs, walked three and struck out one.
Sophomore
Jason Fingerhut (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) pitched one inning and scattered three hits, five runs, walked one and struck out one.
Freshman
Matthew Triola (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) pitched three innings and dispersed eight hits, four runs and struck out three.
Sophomore
Alec Fauvell (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) pitched one inning and walked one and struck out two.
GAME TWO: PLATTSBURGH STATE 3, CANTON 5
Deland scored in the second off a ground out to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Canton recorded one run in the third off a ground out to tie the game, scored one run in the fourth off a single to take the lead and two runs in the sixth off two more singles for a 5-1 advantage.
Kowalowski doubled to left field to plate sophomore
Brantley Marion (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) and Deland singled to center field to score Deland in the eighth.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals could not complete the comeback and took another loss.
Senior
Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) pitched five innings and gave up five hits, two runs, walked one and struck out three.
Junior
Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) pitched one inning and scattered five this, three runs and struck out one.
Marion pitched two innings and gave up two this and struck out two.
