FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team is now 3-3 overall after beating Wisconsin Lutheran College 19-2 but fell to Haverford College 9-6 on Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
GAME ONE: PLATTSBURGH STATE 19, WLC 2
Senior
Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) and freshman
Anthony Maag (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) both were 3-for-4 at the plate and had three runs against the Warriors.
The Cardinals started strong scoring two runs in the first. Deland scored off a throwing error after hitting a single and stealing second while senior
Noah Clark (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) hit a home run to make it 2-0.
"We have really been swinging the bats well," head coach
Kris Doorey said. "Noah's homer in the first kind of set the tone for the offense.
Plattsburgh State scored four more runs in the fourth. Deland, Maag, junior
Jordan Godfrey (Castleton, Vt. / Rutland) and freshman
Jack Bermingham (Monroe, N.Y. / Monroe-Woodbury) all scored off throwing errors to make it 6-0.
The Cardinals recorded seven runs in the fifth to take a 13-run lead.
Maag had a 2 RBI single through the left side to score sophomore
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) and freshman
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford).
Sophomore
Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) hit a single to plate Godfrey and Maag scored when Clark was walked.
Freshman
Simon Alvarez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington) hit a three-run triple to left center and scored Clark, S. Bryant and Deland.
Maag homered in the sixth to give the Cardinals a 14-run edge.
Wisconsin Lutheran scored their two runs in the sixth off a balk and a single to center field.
Freshman
Tom Bowe (Homer, Alaska / Homer) hit a two-run single to center field to score Alvarez and sophomore
Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y. / Bellport) in the seventh.
Junior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) scored off a sacrifice fly and S. Bryant scored off a single from Bowe in the eighth.
In the ninth Fox hit a single in to left field to score sophomore
Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y. / Westlake) for the Cardinals 19th run.
Freshman
Chase Blazak (Pelham, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) pitched 6 innings, scattered seven hits, two runs, struck out 10 and walked zero.
Senior
Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) pitched 3 inning and gave up three hits and stuck-out two.
"Great debut effort from Chase," Doorey said. "He had good command of his pitches and attacked the hitters. It was also nice to get some of the youngest kids going. Maag had a great day and it was nice to get Simon and Jack involved with the squad."
GAME TWO: PLATTSBURGH STATE 6, HAVERFORD COLLEGE 9

Joe Deland continued to swing the bat well and it was good to see
Joel Batista swinging with some confidence," Doorey said.
Deland was 2-for-5 at the plate with one double, one triple, 2 RBIs and two runs while Batista was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Haverford College took a 4-0 lead after the first inning off a single, a two run double and a sacrifice fly.
Clark scored in the second off a single from sophomore
Santino Ycaza (Mastic, N.Y. / Brentwood Sonderling) to put the Cardinals on the board.
Haverford scored one run in the bottom of the second off a single and another in the fourth to take a 6-1 edge.
The Cardinals rallies in the fifth and sixth scoring five runs. "We rally battled our butts off," Doorey stated. "We had to overcome some shaky starting pitching, but we just kept battling."
Deland scored in the fifth off a fielder's choice. In the sixth Craft and Ycaza scored off Deland's double, sophomore
Alex Follmer (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) scored on a pass ball and Deland scored off a sacrifice fly to tie the game 6-6.
Two errors from the Cardinals in the seventh led to three more runs for Haverford.
"Our defense let us down," Doorey said. "But in their defense our pitchers were behind in counts most of the game."
The Cardinals were unable to counter and took the three run loss.
Sophomore
Jason Fingerhut (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) pitched one inning and gave up four hits, four runs, walked three and struck out zero.
Sophomore
Alec Fauvell (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) pitched three innings, scattered three hits, two runs, walked four and struck out one.
Sophomore
Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y. / Bellport) pitched 2.1 innings, dispersed three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out zero.
Senior
Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) pitched 1.2 innings and struck out three.
