KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team kicked its season off with a pair of wins at the Sunkissed Games on Saturday, defeating Alfred University, 3-2, before downing No. 12 Ramapo College, 6-5.
Plattsburgh State moves to 2-0 overall with the wins and next takes on No. 23 Kean University (1:30 p.m.) and McDaniel College (6 p.m.) tomorrow. Alfred slips to 6-5 with the loss, while Ramapo drops to 0-1 with the setback.

Junior left fielder
Amy Glashoff (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) hit a walk-off, two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Cardinals to victory in their first game of the day.
After Plattsburgh State started the inning with a groundout, senior first baseman
Kelsey Gage (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) singled up the middle, while senior right fielder
Amanda Tantillo (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward) drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Junior second baseman
Anna Fisher (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position, which led to Glashoff's single up the middle that scored both runners and ended the game.
Gage kicked off scoring in the contest with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the second that plated senior third baseman
Jackie Decker (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson), while senior third baseman Haley Powers blasted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to give the Saxons a 2-1 advantage.
Junior catcher
Jennifer Groat (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and Gage each went 2-for-3 to pace the Cardinal bats, while freshman center fielder Sydney Saucedo has the lone multi-hit outing for Alfred.
Senior pitcher
Katie Pitkin (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) earned the win for Plattsburgh State, yielding two runs on eight hits, three walks and two hit by pitches while striking out five. Senior pitcher Shannon Schaefer was saddled with the loss for Alfred, permitting one unearned run in 6 1/3 innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Jessica Wilcox gave up two unearned runs in one-third of an inning of relief for the Saxons.
Plattsburgh State 6, No. 12 Ramapo 5
A two-run error that the Cardinals capitalized on in the top of the seventh ultimately helped Plattsburgh State prevail, 6-5, over No. 12 Ramapo in its second game of the day.
Heading into the top of the seventh down 5-3, Decker drew a hit by pitch and Tantillo walked to set the stage for senior right fielder
Felicia Torres (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), who made it a 5-4 game with an RBI double to right field. With two outs, an error by the shortstop allowed Tantillo and Torres to score, giving Plattsburgh State a 6-5 lead. The Cardinals recorded a lineout, a flyout and an infield popup in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Tantillo fired the opening salvo in the top of the first with a bases-loaded walk, and senior center fielder
Dominique Zummo (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made it a 3-0 score with an RBI triple in the top of the fourth. The Roadrunners struck for two runs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on an error and a wild pitch, before seizing a 5-2 lead after a three-run fifth. Senior shortstop Nicole Hernandez, sophomore right fielder Carly Vadinsky and senior center fielder Sisi Machinski all had RBI singles for Ramapo in the bottom of the fifth.
Plattsburgh State pulled one run closer in the top of the seventh, as Zummo drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Junior shortstop
Kaitlyn Preiss (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) keyed the Cardinal attack with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while four Roadrunners had a hit.
Sophomore pitcher
Rhea Pitkin (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) earned the win in the circle for Plattsburgh State, yielding five runs (three earned) on four hits, seven walks and a hit by pitch while striking out four. Senior pitcher Paige Merle took the loss for Ramapo in two innings of relief work.
