KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team dropped a pair of contests at the Sunkissed Games on Sunday, falling to No. 23 Kean University, 3-1, before dropping a 13-4 decision to McDaniel College in five innings in the nightcap.
With a hit in the Cardinals' game against Kean, junior shortstop
Kaitlyn Preiss (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) notched the 100th of her career.
Plattsburgh State drops to 2-2 overall with the losses and faces Eastern Connecticut State University (1:30 p.m.) and No. 16 Ithaca College (3:45 p.m.) tomorrow. Kean rises to 5-0 overall with the win, while McDaniel climbs to 2-6 overall with the victory.

Despite scoring the first run of the game in the third, Plattsburgh State was unable to generate any additional offense to overcome a three-run surge for Kean across the fifth and sixth innings.
Senior first baseman
Kelsey Gage (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) drove in senior center fielder
Dominique Zummo (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) with an RBI double down the left-field line in the top of the third to open scoring for both teams.
Kean countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as junior shortstop Cayleen Rizo and junior first baseman Jackie Riley posted back-to-back RBI hits. Rizo drove in the first run of the inning with two outs, doubling down the left-field line, while Riley hit an RBI infield single before the inning ended with Rizo being thrown out at the plate.
Sophomore pitcher Taryn DiGiacomo added insurance with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth.
Zummo led the Cardinal offense by going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run scored, while DiGiacomo had the lone multi-hit outing for the Cougars.
Senior pitcher
Katie Pitkin (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) was tagged with the loss, yielding three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three. DiGiacomo earned the win for Kean, scattering six hits and allowing one run while striking out three.
McDaniel 13, Plattsburgh State 4 (5 inn.)
Eleven unanswered runs by McDaniel doomed Plattsburgh State in the nightcap, as the Green Terror drew 11 walks in the game while pounding out 10 hits.
McDaniel got on the board in the top of the first with a back-to-back bases-loaded walks drawn by junior first baseman Alicia Wagner and senior designated player Payton Lewis.

Taylor Smith (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) drove in Preiss with an RBI single to left field, and a throwing error allowed junior left fielder
Jennifer Groat (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) to cross as well.
The Green Terror blew the game open with a six-run second inning, which was capped off by an RBI single up the middle by right fielder Kristina Shank. Junior left fielder Tori Wilkins added another run to McDaniels' cause with an RBI double in the third before the Green Terror stretched the lead to 13-2 in the fourth. Senior second baseman Carly Deichman hit an RBI double and later stole home, while senior third baseman Tayler Hishon blasted a two-run homer.
Freshman second baseman
Shannon Myles (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) helped Plattsburgh State come close to avoiding the run rule in the fifth, as she drove in two runs with a single up the middle with two outs.
Myles had a virtuous performance at the plate for the Cardinals, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Hishon (3-for-3, two RBI, two runs scored), Wilkins (2-for-4, three RBI, two runs scored) and senior center fielder Morgan Scardina (0-for-0, three walks, three runs scored, two stolen bases) led the Green Terror.
Sophomore pitcher
Rhea Pitkin (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) and Smith each pitched for Plattsburgh State, with Pitkin being saddled with the loss, while sophomore pitcher Cassie Rickrode earned the win for McDaniel, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks while striking out two.
