PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) recorded a season high of 30 points and picked up 11 rebounds in the Plattsburgh State men's basketball 90-67 triumph over Cortland Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall to record their 14th straight win.
Plattsburgh State improves to 17-4 overall and 14-1 in the SUNYAC while Cortland moves to 15-6, 10-4 in the conference.
Junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) and senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) each scored 11 points while sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) all had 10.
The Cardinals had a 12 point advantage after they went on a nine point run four minutes into the first half. Patron made two free throws and a layup, Johnson made a three-pointer and Patron put in two more free throws.
Cortland came within ten points of the lead when Plattsburgh State went on a seven point spree. Middleton made a layup, DeAngelis drained a three and Patron put in a layup to take a 17 point advantage.
The Red Dragons cut the Cardinals lead to nine points with one minute left but a three pointer by Mack ended the half and put Plattsburgh State up 40-28 at halftime.
The Cardinals scored 50 points in the second half and recorded their largest lead of 25 points with 10:58 left in the game after going on a 12 point binge.
Sophomore forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) put in a layup, DeAngelis drained another three, Mack Made two free throws and Bryant made a three-pointer and a layup.
The Red Dragons put in a layup with 15 seconds left in the game to cut the Cardinals win to 23 points.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Cortland 51-44. Junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) grabbed a team high 12 rebounds while Mack and Middleton each had seven. Mack also recorded four blocks.
The Cardinals are back home Friday, Feb. 9 to host Potsdam at 7:30 p.m.
