PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite out-scoring Oneonta in the fourth quarter the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team fell 65-59 Friday night inside Memorial Hall.
Plattsburgh State is now 8-16 overall and 6-11 in the SUNYAC while Oneonta moves to 17-7, 12-5 in the conference.
The Cardinals were down by two points after the first quarter and the Red Dragons had a ten point edge with 6:15 left in the second quarter.
A three-pointer by junior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) put Plattsburgh State within seven points but Oneonta was able to take an 11 point advantage with two jumpers.
Three-pointers from sophomore guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) and freshman guard
Hanna Whitney (Keene, N.Y. / Keene Central) cut the lead to five.
Oneonta ended the quarter with two free throws and headed into halftime up 30-23.
The Red Dragons took a 12 point advantage three minutes into the third quarter.
Back-to-back three's from sophomore guard
Christina Testa (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) cut the lead in half.
Another three from Testa put Plattsburgh State within four points of Oneonta with 4:35 remaining in the third.
Oneonta went on a seven point run to take the 12 point edge back and three free throws by Durnin cut it to nine.
The Red Dragons finished the quarter with a jumper and a layup to end the quarter and took their largest lead of the game heading into the final quarter up 52-39.
Plattsburgh State out-scored Oneonta 20-13 in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals started the last quarter with a nine point spree. DePasquale drained a three, freshman guard
Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) put in a layup, junior guard
Anna Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) made a layup and sophomore forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) ended it up with a jumper to cut the lead to four points.
With 25 seconds left in the game the Cardinals were within three points after a three-pointer from Thompson.
Unfortunately Oneonta was able to capitalize off Plattsburgh State fouls and finished the game with three free throws to take the six point win.
Plattsburgh State out-shot Oneonta from behind the arc 42.9%-22.2%.
The Cardinals are back home Saturday, Feb. 17 to host New Paltz at 1 p.m.
