Women’s Basketball Ends Season With 85-52 Loss To New Paltz

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team ended their season with a 85-52 loss to New Paltz Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall to end up 8-17 overall and 6-12 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz improves to 16-9, 12-6 in the conference.

The first quarter was tied four times and Plattsburgh State was up 13-10 heading into the second quarter.

New Paltz out-shot the Cardinals 32-8 in the second quarter to head into halftime up 42-21 and held Plattsburgh State to just 13 points in the third to head into the final quarter with a 67-34 lead.

Plattsburgh State had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth with 18 points.

The Hawks took their largest lead of 41 points with 4:20 remaining in the game.

The Cardinals were able to cut the lead to 37 points with a layup from freshman forward Jordan Kastanis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) and two free throws by freshman guard Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell).

After a three-pointer from New Paltz freshman guard Hanna Whitney (Keene, N.Y. / Keene Central) drained a three, sophomore guard/forward Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) put in a layup and Kastanis made a layup to cut the lead to 33 points.

New Paltz made two free throws and freshman guard/ forward Lauren Lawliss (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) put in a layup with one second left to keep the Hawks win to 33 points.

Durnin led the Cardinals with 14 points, freshman forward Mary McKenna (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) had eight and sophomore forward Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) recorded seven.

McKenna picked up a team high 11 rebounds for the Cardinals as well.
