GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds in the No. 10 Plattsburgh State men's basketball 65-57 win over Geneseo Saturday evening inside the Carl Schrader Gymnasium.
Plattsburgh State is now 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) while Geneseo moves to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) scored 12 points, senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) had 11, junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) came off the bench for ten points while senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) picked up a team high 12 rebounds.
Geneseo took the lead early in the first half until a dunk by Howard and a layup from Patron followed by a layup from Johnson put the Cardinals up by three.
The half was tied four more times and the Knights took a three-point lead with 1:58 left.
DeAngelis put in a layup followed by Patron with an old-fashioned three pointer to put Plattsburgh State up by two at halftime, 25-23.
The second half was tied four times before Plattsburgh State took and kept the lead.
The Cardinals went on a 14-point run with 11:10 left in the game.
DeAngelis drained a three, Johnson and Patron each made a layup, Patron made a free throw, Middleton had a jumper and a layup and Howard put in a layup.
Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 15-points with 4:28 remaining.
Geneseo made four free throws to come within 11 points but sophomore guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) drained a three to put the Cardinals up by 14.
The Knights were able to cut the lead to eight by the end for a final score of 65-57.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Geneseo 46-41.
The Cardinals return to the court Wednesday, Dec. 19, to play Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. in the HoopMia Holiday Slam in Miami, Fla.
