MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 13 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team lost to Wesleyan University 84-73 Wednesday evening at the HoopMIA Holiday Slam.

Plattsburgh State moves to 8-2 overall while Wesleyan is now 7-3.

Senior forward Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) double-doubled with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Senior guard Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) recorded 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Senior forward Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) had 14 points with five rebounds while senior guard/forward Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) scored 13 points.

The first half was tied five times with the lead changing eight times.

Wesleyan took an early lead but layups from Middleton and Hill gave the Cardinals a one-point edge.

Plattsburgh State took a five-point cushion after a layup from Patron and a three by Johnson.

Wesleyan went on an eight-point run for a six-point advantage with 11:20 left in the half and had an eight-point lead with 5:44 remaining.

Plattsburgh State went on an eight-point spree to tie the game 31-31 with 3:59 left.

Johnson had a jumper, Hill made two free throws and Patron put in two jumpers.

The rest of the half was basket for basket but Wesleyan was able to make the final one for a 39-38 lead heading into halftime.

Senior forward Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) put in a layup to start the second half to put Plattsburgh State up by one.

Wesleyan took a seven-point lead five minutes in and went on a 13-point run after Middleton made a jumper for an 18-point advantage.

Patron made back-to-back three-pointers followed by another three from junior guard Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) to cut the lead to nine.

Plattsburgh State was within five-points of Wesleyan after two free throws from Hill and a jumper by Johnson with 3:13 left in the game.

Wesleyan made two free throws and Patron made another three to come within four.

In the final 1:32 Wesleyan out-scored Plattsburgh State 10-3 for the 11-point win.

Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Wesleyan 40-38.

The Cardinals are back in action on Thursday against Case Western Reserve University at 2 p.m. at the HoopMIA Holiday Slam.
