MIAMI, Fla. – Sophomore guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) scored a career high of 17 points in the No. 13 Plattsburgh State men's basketball 81-69 win over Case Western Reserve Thursday evening at the HoopMIA Holiday Slam.
Plattsburgh State improves to 9-2 while Case Western Reserve moves to 7-3.
Senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) scored 15 points, picked up eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) had 14 points with two assists while senior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) had 13 points with nine rebounds.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) had 11 points and seven rebounds and senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) also had 11 points with five rebounds and two assists.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Case Western Reserve 55-37 with senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) picking up a team high of ten.
The Cardinals out-shot the Spartans 45.5% to 32.9% in field goals and 52.9% to 30.6% in three-pointers.
Patron started the game with a three-pointer and Case Western Reserve tied it.
Plattsburgh State went on a ten-point run five minutes in; Patron had a jumper, Middleton made a free throw, Johnson had a layup and free throw and Cox and Johnson both had jumper for a 20-8 cushion.
DeAngelis went on an eight-point run of his own followed by two free throws by Johnson and a layup by Hill for a 34-12 advantage with 6:12 left in the first half.
Case Western Reserve ended the half with a three-pointer and two free throws for cut Plattsburgh States lead to 39-25 heading into halftime.
Plattsburgh State out-scored Case Western Reserve 49-44 in the second quarter for the 19-point win.
The Cardinals are back home Tuesday, Jan. 8, for a conference game against Potsdam at 7:30 p.m.
